unlock your data

second only to chat to your data in cringe

i think it could have meaning, but not in a way that's about BI tools or writing queries or creating models or setting up warehouses

our data isn't locked away as in we can't get to it

we don't need it in a different format or displayed in a different tool

side note
i think the real problem with "our data" is its generally trash, beyond help from โœจtransformationโœจ tools, or it doesn't exist in a format that is or can be made useful and digital

what I think is keeping our data locked up is:

a lack of capacity and understanding at the business end. people need to have a clear idea of how to identify points in a process that can be influenced, then work backwards from that to identify the information they need to align to support it. rolling out those sorts of analyst skills to staff in business areas will have more impact than creating models and releasing datasets.

a council's work is so huge and varied, we need subject experts working on this stuff over technical people. someone who is in the work day to day is going to be better placed and more motivated to work on something really beneficial than an outsider

DATA DRIVEN - it ain't the data bit that's the big problem, its the driven bit
